PROJECT PROPOSAL
GOAL: (minimum of 1)
- All clinical staff will be completely familiar with the crash cart, including all items and their locations in the drawers.
- All nurses will know the names of doses of all critical care medications stocked on each crash cart and will be able to correctly choose and administer the required medications during and code blue or rapid response event.
- Build proficiency and confidence in the clinical staff to maintain a calm composure during critical events.
OBJECTIVES: (minimum of 4)
- Teach crash cart basics such as medications and standard dosages.
- Teach cardiac rhythms and dysrhythmias.
- Teach crash cart medications to be given for each critical rhythm and possible scenario.
- Familiarize the nurses with the crash cart items and their locations.
PLANNED EXPERIENCES: (minimum of 5)
- Perform mock codes on both day and night shifts multiple times per week, providing different critical scenarios.
- Perform huddles daily with the clinical staff to reinforce prior teaching.
- Create ECG rhythm exams for clinical staff.
- Create and provide education material (or crash cart pocket guide) for easy reference.
- Provide ACLS cardiac arrest algorithms and post-cardiac arrest care algorithms (ROSC).
