Students will write 1100 words on one of the questions below. For this assignment, sources and referencing are critical – be certain to read the instructions below very carefully.

Does responsible government work in the Australian system?
Does Australia really have a Westminster system of government?
Which is preferable for democracy, accountability and effective government, a parliamentary or a presidential system?
Sources and referencing
For this assignment you are writing a conventional essay, but your sources and referencing are a key concern.
You should have at least SIX sources which must include at least one of each of the following:
—–> A book with one or two authors
—-> A chapter in an edited book
——> An academic (ie peer-reviewed) journal article
—–> A credible on-line source (eg a quality newspaper, a think tank document, a govt web-site)
Important – the course textbook may be used for the assignment but does not meet the criteria for any of the required type of source
Referencing is the number one criterion for this assignment. That means it must be a key focus for you. Students must use one of the two referencing systems outlined in the POLSIS Essay Guide (see section 3.4 of the ECP for the link). This includes fully referencing in the text and providing a list at the end that contains all the information for each reference, in the correct order, with the correct spacing and punctuation. Students MUST use the referencing style as set out in the School’s Essay Guide, not some other variation of the style. Self-evidently, the Essay Guide is a critical tool for this task! Author-in-text is strongly preferred, but students may use footnotes if they wish.

You can choose which essay question to use, but I think ‘How far is Australia a liberal democracy?’ an easy one to write about. Please note the expectations of references. To get a good grade, there needs to be each of these needs to be included.
There must be a minimum of 6 references, but I would like 10 used. You can use more if it makes it a better piece. But no less then 6.

Not sure if this link is available to you, but this is my schools referencing guide. It must comply with this guide. I believe it’s a variation of chicago. Footnotes can be used, but not necessary.
