You will begin by searching online for support groups or discussion boards relating to a psychological disorder or disability. Read through the boards and identify at least one post that you find particularly compelling. Then answer the following in a blank document:
Explain the purpose of the support group and/or discussion board. Is it for a specific psychological disorder/disability? Is it themed? If so, what is the theme?
Describe what aspects about the post make it particularly compelling to you. What did this person say about their disease/disorder? What are some of the behaviors that arise because of this disease/disorder? What are some ways they are coping? How does it influence their life?
Tell us about the probable biological underpinnings of this person’s behavior. What biologically is happening that causes their problems? The possibilities are numerous: multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, hippocampus damage and resulting memory problems, and schizophrenia, to name some examples.
Summarize how the person dealt with the situation.
How did this person’s story make you feel? Did you look at the person positively or negatively? How do you imagine your life would change if you experienced similar circumstances?
