Create a brochure, targeted at professionals working with infants, very young children, and/or pregnant women, or their families. The brochure is to provide basic information a professional would need to support families experiencing or potentially experiencing a disorder or disability. It should include, for example, what the disorder/disability is, how it will impact the fetus during the prenatal development, any birthing implications and resources available to the child and family. It should focus on the earliest stages at which the disability/disorder emerges.
Step One: Choose one of the following chromosomal, genetic, intellectual, physical, and/or developmental disorders or disabilities: Cystic Fibrosis
Step Two: Create your brochure, with the following (for example):
Definition (1-3 bullet points):
- Provide a definition of your topic, with a reference
Explanation (with references):
- what the disability/ disorder is and what it means
- signs, symptoms
- impact on fetal development
- impact on the birthing process or newborn stage
- tests, screening, or initial detection
Preparation or practical suggestions (with references):
- What should a parent expect or what might occur during the birthing process and after the infant has been delivered.
- How can a parent prepare for the birth of their child.
- What resources are available to the child and family after the birth within the GTA.
- This information all must specifically focus on your topic area (e.g., rather than general preparation that any parent would need to do)
