Essay Outline
each student will generate a preliminary bibliography, and a main argument, along with at least three pieces of evidence to support it. This outline does not need to be more polished than point-form, but must be at least two pages long (approximately 500 words) and include at least 5 primary or secondary sources in the preliminary bibliography. This assignment is intended to facilitate a structured final essay. Permitting students to submit a bare-bones outline of the research essay, feedback will be available to ensure that students’ final pieces are as honed as they can be. This replicates the typical feedback process of professional submissions.
Outline a preliminary argument for your major research essay. One to two sentences should be generated which serve to encompass in a single statement what the main thrust or point of your paper is. Try to answer the question “Why is this important?” clearly and cohesively in this statement.
Broadly define the evidence which will be presented, in the approximate order with which it will be explored, to facilitate development of a fluid and coherent overall interrogation of sources and arguments.
List at least five secondary sources which inform this essay.
