After reading Chapter 6, pick a major headline of the day or week and investigate how three different news sources cover the issue.
Choose any three of the following news sources:
• a network television newscast • a cable television newscast/personality program • a major U.S. newspaper • a major international newspaper • a blog • a verified Twitter media personality • a Facebook/internet meme Then write a two-page paper comparing and contrasting each outlet’s coverage of the issue. Your essay should address the following questions: • Was the reporting politically, commercially, or corporately biased? Why or why not? • Does it make a difference as to which source people use to acquire political information? • Which of these sources do you believe most citizens are likely to be exposed to on the issue? How did that source cover the issue? • Does the kind of media we consume introduce bias into our political knowledge?
