Instructions for the Curriculum Mapping Project

The Curriculum Mapping Project (CM Project) is designed for you to apply your knowledge of the curriculum to professional practice.  The CM Project is divided into 5 parts.  Each part builds on the previous assignment.  Once this project is completed, you will use this Project as the basis for your Monitoring and Evaluation Framework (ME Framework).  The ME Framework will be completed near the end of the semester.

The following instructions describe each part of the project and the necessary steps to complete to successfully navigate this assignment.

*CM Project 1: Develop map of an existing curriculum, either in K-12 or higher education. (50 points)

Step 1.  Identify an existing or develop an academic curriculum and create a map that aligns the curriculum with student learning outcomes. An example of a Curriculum Map is provided for you in the module. Use the following format to develop your Curriculum Map:

Where in the Curriculum is the SLO

CAEP 1.2. Students understand and can identify the different components of research (epistemology, theory, methodology and methods). LPL 775 LPL 780 LPL 875; LPL 900; LPL 840 LPL 780 – Final Project

In this step, you are only expected to identify Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs).  However, the courses that comprise the academic curriculum should be listed somewhere under “Where in the Curriculum is the SLO introduced to the student; does the student develop their skills to realize the SLO; and, is the student able to practice the skills necessary to satisfy the SLO?

*CM Project 2: Update the curriculum map to include strategies for evaluation. (30 points)

Step 2.  Once you finish aligning the academic curriculum with the student learning outcomes, now its time to identify the assessments that you will use to measure students’ progress towards achieving the SLO.  Keep in mind, you can use a series of formative and summative assessments, assessments based in the classroom and those that are program or unit based.  This information should be entered under the column labeled Assessment.

*CM Project 3: Upload the set professional standards that govern the curriculum that you mapped. (10 points)

Step 3.  Identify a set of professional standards that govern the academic curriculum you mapped.  You might have started the process with the professional standards in mind and allowed these standards to guide your development of SLOs.  But like many academic programs, they are developed and then aligned with professional standards after the fact.  Either way, upload the professional standards that you will leverage to align your curriculum in part 4 of the project.

*CM Project 4: Submit an updated curriculum map to show alignment with the professional standards. (30 points)

Step 4.  Utilize the first column – Alignment with Professional Standards – to demonstrate the alignment of your curriculum with the professional standards uploaded for part 3 of the project.

*CM Project 5: Submit summary of the articles, policies or laws as they impact the curriculum you mapped. (30 points)

Step 5.  Identify 2 or more resources (research articles; federal, state or local policies; or laws that impact the curriculum that you mapped.  Compose a narrative that summarizes these sources.  These summaries should be consistent with APA standards for citation (7th edition).  You should summarize each source, discuss the research approach or policy context, and then articulate how the source impacts the curriculum that you mapped.
