“A critical account of how you engaged in caring for and supporting a person with complex needs who was in your care and their carers”. Relevant health and social policy and professional literature should be included in this case study.
The case study should also reflect the key concepts/themes explored in the module and demonstrate achievement of the module learning outcomes. Module learning outcomes:
1.Define what a complex need is in the context of mental health diagnosis. What is the meaning of thesis/ antithesis and synthesis in respect of caring for patients with complex needs and their carers? Why do nurses need to consider this? Think dominant discourse and model that are used in mental health nursing and psychiatry.
2.Identify a patient with a diagnosis of (choose one/or repeat for all) Schizophrenia/Psychosis/Depression/Bipolar Effective Disorder/ Emotional Unstable personality Disorder (BPD)/ Dementia/Huntingdon’s Chorea or an Eating Disorder or Substance Use who has complex needs and their families?
3.What is the thesis position which informs the treatment of the person with the chosen diagnosis and complex need and their carers in respect of identifying and summarizing.
