Analyse the film in terms of the five aesthetic fields as described by Herbert Zettl, by devoting a distinct segment of this section to each field; in the process, highlight at least one particular use of the formative elements of each field which you feel is very effective, and another which you believe might have worked against the demands of the narrative.

b. Write notes on the narrative use of framing in The Baby. Give concrete examples from the film.
c. An aesthetically relevant audiovisual text narrates the same story at every level of film language. Conclude your essay by discussing how well you feel this film manages to perform in this respect.

DO NOT:
· Give lengthy descriptions of the film unless you feel you absolutely have to in order to illustrate a point.
· Follow Zettl as if Sight-Sound-Motion were a book of absolute truths. As we have said many times in class, use it as your starting point, but form your own opinion based on other sources and also on your personal observations.
· Automatically dismiss exceptions in film language because they go against Zettl’s tenets. Think whether the narrative calls for rules to be broken.
· Stick just to Zettl. I expect you to refer to other sources, like Michel Chion’s Audio-Vision (details in your course description) along with any other book, article, or internet source that can help you analyse critically the use of the elements of the five aesthetic fields.
· Submit the essay before giving it a good spell-check.
· Resort to plagiarism. You’re better than that.
· Write more than 2,100 words.

DO:
· List all your sources and give a good Bibliography.
· Approach the essay with an open mind.
· Ask questions when you get stuck.
· Add images from the film if you feel it is absolutely necessary to illustrate a point, but do not do it just for the sake of decorating your text.
· Note that the title calls for three distinct sections (four if you include a short introduction of 100 words or less). Segment (a) should amount to about 1,200 words, with the other segments running to an average length of 400 words each.
