John, are you suggesting a sliding scale fee structure for medical care based on your income? If so, that’s interesting… can you elaborate? Have you seen this done anywhere?

The position that rising health care costs are attributed to rising costs of education and universal care would increase inefficiency and defeat any gains can’t stand up under the “reasonableness” test. It fails because the current system is already inefficient.
The argument that all government agencies are inefficient, thus cost would increase if a government agency is allowed to be in charge of health care is specious at best. Efficiency is not the purpose of government. Effectiveness is. Until our most recent POTUS, the effectiveness nor efficiency of the FBI, Secret Service and CIA have never been in question. NASA is also considered among the most well-run government agencies
“But health-care costs ultimately reflect the efficiency of the medical-delivery system, the level of intensity of care, wage levels, the generosity of covered benefits, and the medical needs of the population. More than anything, health-care costs reflect the number of skilled people employed in the health-care sector. While single-payer advocates argue that the government could pay less for hospital care, they have a long wish list of additional medical expenditures–and essentially none that they desire to see eliminated. The main features of private insurance to which they object (claim reviews, preferred networks of providers, and cost sharing) are the elements that serve to constrain prices.” (Pope, 2019)
The original ACA had a government option. Universal Health Care would replace that provision, which was stripped off in Congress.
