You are a reporter working for a local newspaper. The editor knows you have a particular interest in world views and she has a challenge for you. She would like you to write an article that analyzes the message conveyed by a photograph published recently in another paper.
The tasks consist of doing a critical analysis of the prevalent world view conveyed by the photograph below entitled “Canada Finally Joins the US!” and justifying your position in a 1,200-word (±20%) essay-style paper.
Picture 1. Canada Finally Joins the US!
Instructions
- Examine the picture carefully and do a critical analysis of it, making sure that it covers the following elements:
- a) Define what a world view is, and describe the prevalent Canadian world view.
- b) Explain how the photo relates to the prevalent Canadian world view.
- c) Discuss the hidden meaning in the photo using at least two of the following perspectives: political, cultural, economic, and/or social.
- d) Explain how the message in the photo can be understood as both true and false, and by whom.
- e) Describe how the photo could be adapted to better represent the Canadian experience.
- Using Microsoft Word and an 11-point Arial font, write a 1,200-word (±20%) article, in essay style. You may use material from all modules, and you must use the appropriate terminology and concepts to justify your interpretation.
- Refer to at least three readings and one video to support your position. Be sure to properly cite all the sources you use and include a reference page at the end of your essay (this is not part of your word-count).
- Revise and correct your work, and document your revision process in the Revision Strategies table.
