Federal legislators established discrimination laws that protect workers from discriminatory prosecutions based on age, color, disability, national origin, race, religion, and sex. Many states have added to the protected categories. In addition, under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII), many states have different steps that must take place based on the size of the employer as well as other requirements.
