To what extent can historians rely on the sources to develop an understanding of the peoples/cultures/societies that they describe?

Coursework

The coursework consists of two elements:

1. A 1500-word essay on the utility of some of the primary sources that you will read as part of your seminar preparation . The essay questions are listed below. All of the
primary sources can be found in the unit handbook and the individual seminar preparation sheets, but you will need to identify your own secondary sources using the unit reading list.
2. Engagement activities that you will complete during seminars For each activity, you will need to examine newspaper articles and/or additional primary sources that relate to
the theme of the seminar. You will complete one engagement activity for each seminar. This work will not be graded and you will secure 100% for this element if you attend the seminars and complete these
activities during class. If you are unable to attend a particular seminar, you must inform your tutor so that they can send you a copy of the engagement activity for that seminar. You can then complete the
activity for the missed seminar in your own time and email it to your tutor.
