Topic: War & Violence in the 21st Century.
What is the speaker’s point of view about the topic? Is the speaker biased?
What ethical issues and ethical reasoning are argued?
Do you think that the use of drone technology has moral and ethical implications? Why or why not?
Do you agree with the speaker’s point of view? Be specific and thorough. Express how and why you agree or disagree and discuss how ethics and values contribute to your opinion. Consider the theoretical concepts discussed in the course. Do not just state your viewpoint, rather provide relevant details to support your findings and/or position.
Expectations for Discussing and Referencing the Course Text in the Initial Discussion Posts and Initial Current Events Posts – In the initial discussion post and initial current events post each week (not necessarily your comments/responses on your classmates’ posts or articles, though), it is always required that you utilize the course text as a reference with an in-text citation for your post that supports your ethical argument. By utilizing the course text as a reference, this includes BOTH AN IN-TEXT CITATION AND THE COURSE TEXT’S BIBLIOGRAPHIC REFERENCE AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR POST. You will lose significant points if you don’t include both an in-text citation and the course text reference to support your post. You can best complete this by quoting the course text, but you can also paraphrase certain parts/pages of the course text and cite the course text and the specific pages in an in-text citation, which is as simple as this: (MacKinnon and Fiala 2018, page #). The APA formatted reference for the course text is shown below:
MacKinnon, B., & Fiala, A. G. (2018). Ethics theory and contemporary issues. Boston MA: Cengage Learning.
Discussion and Current Events Posts Length – The required minimum length for initial discussion posts and initial current events posts is 200 WORDS, but generally good posts should be between 250-400 words. The word maximum/limit for these posts is 500 WORDS, and this is a requirement that is strictly enforced. Use the word number indicator at the bottom right of the text box when making your posts to ensure that you are following the word minimum and word limit. With regard to your response posts to your peers’ posts and articles, there is no strict word minimum or maximum for these posts, but they must be substantive and contribute to the dialogue. Generally there should be a minimum of two to three sentences that amount to more than “I agree with your post” or “good post.” (See the course announcements for a sample discussion and current events post that you can model your posts off of.)
